The Ohio River Valley Airedale Terrier Club is a pack of Airedale Terrier fanciers. Airedalers in theOhio Valley (and across the country) have joined together to share our common interests:
- Training the Airedale for the show ring, obedience trials, agility trials, and hunting and working.
- Breeding to the Airedale standard
- Assisting the owner in grooming techniques.
- Updating Airedalers on medical needs and therapies available for their dogs.
- Hosting matches to allow even the novice to get a taste of the "show ring."
- Providing news of nationwide Airedale events through the Airedale Terrier Club of America
THE CLUB AND IT'S OBJECTIVES
The Ohio River Valley Airedale Terrier Club (ORVATC) was founded in 1985 and is the regional club for the breed in this area. ORVATC is recognized by the Airedale Terrier Club of America (ATCA). The objectives of ORVATC closely follow those of the national club. Those objectives are (a) to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-bred Airedale Terriers and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection, (b) to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which the breed shall be judged, (c) to do all in our power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging and adopting sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience, agility, and hunting tests or field trials, and (d) to conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience, agility, and hunting tests or field trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club which showcase the Airedale's versatility.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
ORVATC welcomes to full membership all persons 18 years of age or older who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to ORVATC's purposes and objectives. While membership is unrestricted as to residence, the Club's primary purpose is to be representative of the breeders and exhibitors in its immediate area.
DUES
Membership dues shall be $15 per person or $25 per family per year, payable on or before the 1st day of January of each year. More description of membership eligibility, dues, election to membership and termination of membership is outlined in the section "Constitution and By-laws".
BENEFITS OF THE ORVATC MEMBER
Membership to ORVATC affiliates the individual with a regional Airedale club. This affiliation makes it possible for each member to contribute to and benefit from the knowledge and experience of the others. The member becomes a part of the body working to promote the Airedale Terrier. The common bond of devoted interest in the Airedale Terrier has forged lifelong friendships for many.
MEETINGS:
ORVATC holds meetings about six times a year. Our annual business meeting with the
election of officers is held in February.
In the spring of each year, we hold a Fun Match to show off our 'Dales and have a good
time with them. Each December we get together to celebrate the holiday season. Our
annual Photo Contest is among the festivities of the evening.
Our meetings are usually held at the homes of members who volunteer to host them.
Depending on the weather and the site, we invite the dogs to join us. Among the many
activities at our meetings are demonstrations on grooming and training.
With our large geography, we try to have meetings at central locations. Please plan to
drive a few miles to the meetings. They are well worth it.
